Dunav (Ruse) registered 20-year-old Cuban outside hitter Carlos Javier Pereira Larea just before their first match in WINBET Super Volley for the 2026/27 season. As VolleyWeek first reported yesterday, October 29, the Ruse club was in the final stages of attracting a young volleyball player from Cuba. Our information has now been confirmed with the appearance of the player in Dunav's official roster, where he is listed as Larrea Karlos.

Born on March 6, 2006, the Cuban is 193 centimeters tall and plays as an outside hitter. Even more interesting, however, is his international resume.
14 points against Bulgaria at the World Championship
In August 2025, Pereira Larea participated with the Cuban national team at the U21 World Championship in China.
In their very first match, the Cubans faced Bulgaria and achieved a 3:1 victory (16:25, 25:17, 25:23, 25:21).
Pereira Larea was among his team's main scorers with 14 points, all from attack. He successfully completed 14 out of 24 attacks, achieving a 58.3% success rate. Only Daniel Martinez was more prolific for Cuba with 23 points.
The Cuban outside hitter played a total of nine matches in the championship and accumulated 125 points – 109 from attack, 15 from blocks, and one directly from a serve. On average, this amounts to nearly 14 points per match.
From Azerbaijan to the Bulgarian championship
In the 2025/26 season, Pereira Larea was part of Azerbaijan's Neftchi (Baku), and before that, he played for Avispas de Santiago in his homeland. Interestingly, the Cuban will wear jersey number 10 for Dunav – the same number with which he represented the Cuban national team at the U21 World Championship and scored 14 points against Bulgaria. He joins the other foreign additions to Krasimir Mironov's squad – Polish opposite Kacper Wnuk and Latvian setter Markus Vensbergs.
His registration comes just before the home match against Beroe (Stara Zagora) today, October 30, at 18:00 in Ruse.
The second-round match will be Dunav's first of the new season, as the Ruse team rested at the start due to Cherno More's withdrawal from participation in the elite league.
Unlike the hosts, Beroe already has one victory – 3:0 (25:20, 25:23, 25:20) against Metalurg (Pernik).
It remains to be seen whether the young Cuban international will make his official debut for Dunav against the Stara Zagora team.
