Only four in history! Karol Butryn crossed the 5000-point mark in Poland

Polish opposite Karol Butryn etched his name among the legends of the local championship, becoming only the fourth volleyball player to reach the 5000-point mark in the elite division.
The 33-year-old player for Asseco Resovia (Rzeszów) achieved the historic milestone in their home victory over Energa Trefl (Gdańsk) with a score of 3:1 (22:25, 25:20, 25:20, 25:14) in a match from the third round of the Polish TAURON Liga.
The milestone point came in the very first set. At 21:24, Butryn successfully completed an attack, reducing the hosts' deficit and simultaneously rounding his personal tally to exactly 5000 points in the Polish elite league.
With this achievement, the opposite joined an extremely prestigious company. Before him, only Mariusz Wlazły, Dawid Konarski, and Jakub Jarosz had surpassed the 5000-point mark.
Wlazły remains unreachable at the top of the all-time ranking with 7624 points. He is followed by Konarski with 5611 and Jarosz with 5349. Butryn now occupies fourth place, being the only one of this quartet who continues to increase his tally in the current season.
Interestingly, the attacker reached the historic milestone in significantly fewer matches played than his three predecessors. Before the match against Trefl, he had 4995 points in 311 matches, while Wlazły accumulated his total in 508 matches, Konarski in 408, and Jarosz in 389.
Butryn finished the match with 18 points, 16 from attack and two aces, becoming the top scorer for the winners. One of his serves reached a speed of 115 km/h and earned him the award for the most impressive serve of the match.
This is far from the Pole's first impressive achievement from the service line. In the 2023/24 season, he set a record in the Polish championship with 80 aces in a single campaign.
The match itself started better for the guests from Gdańsk, who won the first set. However, Resovia gradually asserted their dominance, and the final set ended with a decisive 25:14. Klemen Čebul added 17 points for the winners and received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
Thus, the evening in the "Podpromie" hall turned into a double celebration for the hosts \u2014 a victory in front of their home crowd and a historic individual jubilee for one of the most consistent scorers in Polish club volleyball.
