Review of Group B from EuroVolley 2024 U18, Day 6: "La Furia Roja" in the semi-finals, "Azzurri" play out their last match

In the Kolodruma Hall, the second team to play in the semifinals was determined - it's the team from Spain

Yesterday, 4 more matches were played in Plovdiv. Here's what happened on the sixth day of EuroVolley 2024 in Group B:

1. Estonia - Czech Republic 0:3 (17:25, 22:25, 22:25)

The two teams opened another competition day of the European Volleyball Championship for U18 boys in the second stream with a match that went to the Czechs. Estonia could not oppose their opponent in the first game, losing it after 17:25. The second and third sets were far more contested, but the Czech Republic took their own after two times 25:22. The volleyball players from the lands of Bohemia and Moravia are in fourth position in Group B, but have a chance to overtake the third team - Belgium, if things in the last matches develop favorably for the Czechs. The third position gives tickets for the 2025 World Championship.

2. Spain - Slovenia 3:1 (31:33, 28:26, 25:15, 33:31)

The Iberians and Slovenians played an impressive match, which was extremely interesting for neutral spectators. The first game went to Slovenia, after proceeding at a marathon pace - 33:31. Spain struck back, snatching the second set after a new dramatic score - 28:26. "La Furia Roja" ran wild in the third game, leaving the Slovenians with only 15 points. Spain completed a full comeback in this way, but in the next set, which turned out to be the last, they had to snatch victory "tooth and nail". Another impressive and breathtaking game, which mirrored the first, was offered by the two teams to the public. After 33:31, the Iberians deservedly triumphed - again pulling ahead of third-placed Belgium by 4 points, before the Flemings played their match against Italy, and also before the direct clash between Belgians and Spaniards on the last day of the groups.

3. Italy - Belgium 3:1 (23:25, 25:19, 25:19, 25:14)

"Squadra Azzurra" became a true arbiter in the dispute for second place in Group B between Spain and Belgium. And it seemed as if the result of the first game suggested that the "Azzurri" would "lend a hand" to the Flemings to potentially eliminate the Iberians from the semifinals - Belgium took a 1:0 lead after 25:23. However, this shocked Italy, who took the next two sets, leaving their opponent with 19 points in each. In the fourth game, "Squadra Azzurra" literally swept Belgium, winning the match after 25:14. Despite their heavy loss, the Flemings hold third place in the stream in their own hands before the last matches. Manuel Zlatanov and Italy, meanwhile, are already intensely preparing for their semifinal against the runner-up in Group A - the team from Poland. The two teams will play their match in "Levski Sofia" Hall on June 20.

4. Romania - Greece 2:3 (21:25, 25:16, 25:23, 16:25, 16:18)

The last match of the sixth day of EuroVolley 2024 in Plovdiv offered a fierce Balkan derby. Our northern and southern neighbors played a great match, which was a gift for all volleyball fans, especially neutral ones. Romania took the lead first, going up 1:0 in sets after 25:21. Greece, however, mobilized and swept their opponent in the second set - 25:16 and a 1:1 tie. Our southern neighbors completed a full comeback after taking the third set with a minimal lead - 25:23. Romania, in turn, also shook off what was happening on the court and managed to take the match to a decisive fifth game after a mirrored 25:16. The Romanians thus avenged the second set, and the tie-break was the "icing on the cake" in the match. In it, the two rivals battled from the very beginning, but in the end, Greece was the calmer of the two teams, managing to snatch victory in the match after a dramatic 18:16. Our northern neighbors remained at the bottom of Group A, while our southern neighbors "climbed" to 6th position before the last competition day of the group stage of EuroVolley 2024.
