The volleyball world bid farewell to Pope Francis - a minute of silence on Italian courts as well

🕊️

Bulgarian volleyball players competing in Italy will pay their respects to the memory of Pope Francis with a minute of silence before each match this week. 🕊️
They will be part of the national tribute announced by the Italian Volleyball Federation in a sign of respect for the Holy Father.
Pope Francis died on the morning of April 21 at the age of 88. Recognized for his deep commitment to sports and his positive attitude towards young people, he left a significant mark on volleyball as well. One of the most unforgettable events in Italian volleyball history was the meeting on January 30, 2023, when the Holy Father received the Italian national teams in an audience at the Vatican and addressed strong words to the entire sport.

🤍 The Italian Volleyball Federation, at the direction of CONI President Giovanni Malagò, announced that all matches until Sunday, April 27, will begin with a minute of silence. This is a symbolic, yet deeply heartfelt gesture that emphasizes the human dimension of sport.

Pope Francis will remain in the hearts of millions not only as a spiritual leader but also as a man who truly believed in the unifying power of sport.
