The University of Hawaii men's volleyball team, ranked No. 4 in the country, returned to its winning ways with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-18) victory over No. 11 UC San Diego on Friday, in the first of two Big West Conference matches played at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. 🏆
The win secured a fourth consecutive 20-win season for the Rainbow Warriors (20-2, 3-0 BWC) and seventh under head coach Charlie Wade. With the win, Wade is four victories away from tying Mike Wilton's all-time record of 316 wins. 📈
Spyros Chakas was Hawaii's leader with 18 points (16 kills) on .387 hitting, plus one block and one ace. 💥👊
Louis Sakanoko added 13 points on .409 hitting and seven digs, while Alaka'i Todd finished with seven points, seven digs, and four blocks. 💪
As a team, Hawaii hit .326 for the match, recording six aces and seven blocks. 💥
The Tritons (16-5, 2-1) were led by Anthony Cherfan, who tallied 13 points. ⚡
Set 1:
Hawaii took a 10-7 lead, but the Tritons responded to take an 11-10 lead. The Warriors regained the lead, scoring three unanswered points for a 21-18 advantage and closed out the set hitting .278 while holding their opponent to .071. 🔥
Set 2:
Hawaii took a 20-17 lead after a 4-1 run and closed out the set, outscoring the Tritons 9-4. The team hit .367, with Chakas and Sakanoko combining for 10 of the team's 15 points. 💥
Set 3:
Hawaii started with a 9-5 lead and extended it to 13-7 after Todd's solo block. The Warriors led by as many as eight points, and Chakas' 16th kill ended the match. 👏
