Severin Dimitrov: We will keep the young competitors, we will also invite those we have loaned out

Congratulations on winning the cup and qualifying for the elite. Tell us briefly about the path to this success.

Thank you! It was a very tough process. We started from a bad position, finishing fourth in the standings. We played eight playoff matches, including today's, and the schedule was really extremely busy. But I'm happy that the boys persevered, and the crowd was also incredible. The atmosphere was great and we played at a high level. I am most proud of the young athletes who managed to cope with the stress, as this is their first final.

Slavia has always been known for developing young talents. Do you think this will be the foundation of the team in the elite?

I don't want to deny the players who helped win the trophy. They will be the backbone of the team next season. At the same time, there will also be talks about potential new additions, but we have a long summer ahead and need to make the right decisions.

We see that you have many players on loan. Could some of them, like Bodurov, return to the team?

Anything is possible. Players who are on loan, like Apostol Boyanov and others, are always welcome at Slavia if they wish to return.

What do you think had the biggest impact on the team's success and winning the cup?

Throughout the season, training sessions were held twice a day, with both young and more experienced athletes actively participating. I believe this helped us, especially in the playoff phase. The semi-final against the strong Etropole team was indicative of the progress we made thanks to intensive preparation.

You mentioned experience. Was attracting a top-class setter like Stiliyan Asenov from Neftochimic key to the success?

Yes, attracting Stiliyan was very important for us. The interesting thing is that in 2019-2020, we again won promotion to the elite with him. Now things are repeating themselves. Obviously, he is a key figure in our team and plays an important role in difficult matches. His experience was crucial for the team's stability.

Do you think Asenov could pursue a coaching career in the future?

If he wants to get involved in coaching, he should definitely be given a chance. He has the necessary qualities and desire to work in this process.

Speaking of the future, how do you see it for the two young centers in your team? Ventsi Simeonov has scouted them for the U21 national team?

Even when he visited Slavia, the men's national coach Blengini noticed them and saw their potential. I believe that Ventsi Simeonov will also appreciate their qualities and will give them the opportunity to play at an international level. This is a chance for these young athletes and it's great that they are already on the national coach's radar.

What are your chances of staying in the elite?

That will be our goal, but we need to make a work plan. We will do everything possible to perform at the highest level in the Super League.

It seems like a precedent for two brothers to lead the women's and men's teams in the elite. Do you think this will help you?

Organizationally, we always help each other. We support each other in difficult moments and work together to achieve success.

I wish you success in the new season!

Thank you! I look forward to the new challenges!
