45 athletes in 16 sports will represent Bulgaria at the Paris Games

Boxer Stanimira Petrova and swimmer Petar Mitsin will be the flag bearers at the
Opening Ceremony.

The General Assembly of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) today approved the Bulgarian delegation for the XXXIII
Summer Olympic Games in Paris, which begin on July 26. The delegates
decided that Bulgaria would be represented in the most prestigious competition on the planet
by 45 athletes in 16 sports. At the same time, the chairman of the
BOC, Stefka Kostadinova, announced that the flag bearers of the Bulgarian delegation in the
parade of nations during the opening of the Olympics will be
boxer Stanimira Petrova and swimmer Petar Mitsin.

"First of all, I want to congratulate everyone who, in the last few
years, helped in securing the Bulgarian Olympic quotas for
Paris 2024. I thank the athletes, coaches, the staff of the
national teams, medical personnel, employees and leaders of the
sports federations. All of them fought hard and earned their participation in
Paris after extremely tough qualifications, some even with results and
competition like at world championships and Olympics. I have always
emphasized that it is not the quantity that matters, but the quality. You saw what happened
in Tokyo and how – contrary to the pessimistic predictions and remarks
upon departure – we recorded one of our strongest participations in history
with 6 medals, three of which were gold," Kostadinova recalled.

The President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee thanked for the assistance from the Bulgarian state
and appealed to all compatriots to support our Olympians
and together give this powerful impetus for the success and good performance of
our entire delegation.

"I sincerely wish each of our athletes to have their big day during the Olympics.
May they be healthy and strong, and wear the Bulgarian uniforms with honor and pride,
as they are the brightest ambassadors of Bulgarian identity.
I strongly wish and believe that in Paris we will once again hear our national anthem at least a few
times," added the current world record holder in high jump,
global celebrity and icon of Bulgarian sport, Stefka Kostadinova.

At the previous Olympics in Tokyo, Bulgaria participated with 42 competitors in 14
sports and won six medals, three of which were gold. Titles were won by Ivet
Goranova in the Olympic debut of karate, Stoyka Krasteva in boxing, and
the rhythmic gymnastics ensemble consisting of Simona Dyankova, Laura
Traats, Madlen Radukanova, Stefani Kiryakova, and Erika Zafirova. Silver
went to Antoaneta Kostadinova in sport shooting, and the two bronzes were in
wrestling - for Taybe Yusein and Evelina Nikolova.

Due to his position as interim Minister of Youth and Sports and
to prevent a conflict of interest, the President of the Bulgarian Basketball Federation, Georgi Glushkov, was
released from the Executive Committee of the BOC, and in his place
was elected president of the BFU Georgi Ivanov.

Today's General Assembly of the BOC accepted Krasimir as individual members
Ininski and Todor Gergov, the Bulgarian Lacrosse Federation and the Bulgarian Kickboxing and Muaythai Confederation were approved as BOC members.
The delegates honored the memory of Pyuzant Kasabian with a minute of silence.
