Captain of the Bulgarian national team Alex Grozdanov finished in first place among blockers in the regular season of the Polish PlusLiga and solidified his position among the best middle blockers in the championship.
The middle blocker for Bogdanka LUK Lublin dominated at the net, finishing with 69 direct block points, which makes 0.69 points per set. Concurrently, he also registered 71 successful blocks, or 0.71 per set.
The interesting coincidence in these statistics is explained by the fact that the Bulgarian player played exactly 100 sets within the regular season. The difference between the two metrics also shows something significant – not every successful block results in a direct point, as some of them lead to an extension of the rally and an opportunity for a counter-attack.
Behind Grozdanov in the ranking are well-known names from the PlusLiga. Lukasz Usowicz finished in second place with 65 block points, and Bartosz Lemanski is third with 61 points.
The Bulgarian national player's first position is a result of consistency and high efficiency in every set, as he managed to stand out in competition with some of the strongest middle blockers in one of the leading championships in the world.
