Karyagin and Zhelev played a key role in Macerata's point in the loss to Aversa

Banca Macerata Physiomed can be both satisfied and disappointed after the dramatic 2:3 (30:32, 25:16, 25:23, 22:25, 12:15) loss to Virtus Aversa in a match from the tenth round of the second half of the season in the Italian Serie A2 Credem Banca. The match lasted almost two and a half hours and presented two fundamentally different images of the hosts – very strong play in the won sets, but also a missed opportunity to close out the match after allowing a comeback in the tie-break.

The match developed completely evenly from the first rallies. Macerata had an advantage in blocking and serving, but several inaccuracies at key moments, especially in the fifth set, proved decisive. In the tie-break, the hosts achieved only 38% attack efficiency, while their opponent was significantly more effective with 62%, which tipped the scales in favor of Aversa.

Despite the defeat, Giannini's team gained a valuable point in the playoff battle, and statistically, the match showed a solid contribution from both Bulgarian internationals – Denis Karyagin and Rusi Zhelev, who were among the main figures in reception and attack for the hosts.

Karyagin played a very stable match and was among Macerata's top scorers on the court. He scored 21 points, finished the match with a +10 efficiency rating, maintaining high effectiveness in both attack and reception.

Rusi Zhelev, for his part, also played an important role in the team's system, finishing with 12 points, adding 1 ace and 2 blocks, and actively participating in reception throughout the match.

The statistics clearly show the different roles of the two Bulgarian internationals. Karyagin was the main attacking weapon on the wings and maintained very good attack efficiency – 55%, which is an excellent indicator for an outside hitter with so many balls. At the same time, his 56% positive reception helped the setter maintain stable game organization.

Zhelev had a more moderate attack efficiency but compensated with contributions in all elements – a service ace, two kill blocks, and significant participation in reception. This type of all-around play is often key to team balance.

Match Statistics

Indicator Macerata Aversa
Aces 6 4
Service Errors 26 20
Kill Blocks 13 7
Attack Efficiency 52% 48%
Positive Reception 49% 53%
Perfect Reception 26% 34%

The numbers show that Macerata surpassed their opponent in blocking and serving, but the excessively high number of service errors and several missed opportunities at the end of the sets proved decisive. Aversa, for its part, was more stable in reception, which allowed setter Garnica to organize the team's attack more effectively.

Ultimately, victory went to the team that was more effective in decisive moments, while for Macerata, the consolation remains the point gained and the strong play of the main attacking figures – including Bulgarian internationals Denis Karyagin and Rusi Zhelev, who continue to be among the team's key players.
