The Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) took an important step in protecting its elite athletes by discussing the signing of a special insurance policy for national team members.
This occurred during a Federal Council meeting in Rome, where key topics for the future of Italian volleyball were discussed. This was announced by FIPAV's official website.
The new policy will be aimed at players from the men's and women's national teams, with the goal of providing broader and adequate protection for the representatives of the elite of Italian volleyball.
The topic gained particular relevance after Daniele Lavia's severe injury, sustained during a national team camp last summer ", an injury that sidelined him for a long period and caused serious tension between clubs and the federation regarding responsibility and compensation.
80 years of FIPAV ", a national-scale anniversary
The Federation also presented the project for the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of FIPAV's establishment ", an anniversary with immense symbolism for Italian sport.
The anniversary events will cover the entire country through a series of activities, and the official opening will be in Bologna on March 31, 2026 ", precisely in the city and on the date the federation was founded.
The Italian Volleyball Hall of Fame ceremony will also take place then.
Velasco and De Giorgi remain at the helm of the champions
Among the most important decisions of the meeting was the approval of the national team programs and coaching appointments.
Italy continues with the same two head coaches for the men's and women's teams:
Julio Velasco", national team (women)
Ferdinando De Giorgi", national team (men)

The Federation specifies that at this stage only the head coaches are known, while the full staffs have not yet been announced and are pending completion, with the remaining names to be published additionally on FIPAV's official website.
The decisions in Rome show a federation that simultaneously thinks about the future and reacts to the painful lessons of the present.
The new insurance policy comes at a time when the "Lavia case" brought to the forefront the question of the cost of national commitment, and Italy moves forward with proven champion coaches, major international projects, and a clear strategy for volleyball development.
