Burgas is getting closer to once again hosting a tournament from the Volleyball Nations League (VNL). The President of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation, Lyubomir Ganev, told volleyweek.bg that only the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) needs to officially confirm the hosting.
"99.9% the Volleyball Nations League in 2027 will be in Burgas. We are just waiting for FIVB to officially confirm it and for the tournament to be included in the program," Ganev said.
According to him, the competition should be held during the second weekend, as originally planned, with only the final approval from the international federation remaining.
The President of the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation thanked the Municipality of Burgas and the Municipal Council for their support in the city's bid.
"I want to thank the Municipal Council of Burgas for accepting our proposal. Now we are only waiting for the official confirmation from FIVB," he stated.
After the successful hosting of the tournament, the organizers are already planning improvements for the next edition. One of the ideas is to increase the capacity of "Arena Burgas" by building additional stands on the short side of the hall.
"If there were any remarks from last time, we will address them. We will try to have more spectators," Ganev explained.
He added that the tournament program might become clear earlier than expected. According to him, Russia's return to the Volleyball Nations League will not significantly change the format of the competition, with the only difference being that one of the tournaments will have seven teams instead of six.
