Bulgarian volleyball player Hristiyan Dimitrov became one of the big heroes of the third round in the Italian Serie A2, despite the defeat of his Consar Ravenna.
Dimitrov scored 27 points in the home loss to Rinascita Lagonegro with a score of 1:3 and shared first place among the top scorers of the round with Marco Novello from Macerata, who also finished with 27 points.
However, the Bulgarian single-handedly topped the ranking for the most successful attacks – 25, as no other volleyball player in Serie A2 reached such a figure in the third round.
Dimitrov's strong performance also coincided with an important personal anniversary. The Bulgarian player crossed the 500-point mark with the Ravenna team, all of which were scored in Serie A2.
After the first three rounds, Dimitrov already has 53 points in 10 played sets, which places him tenth in the scorers' ranking in the championship. His average scoring efficiency is 5.3 points per set.
Despite his excellent individual form, Ravenna is experiencing difficulties at the start of the season. The team occupies 11th place with 3 points after three rounds, and the defeat by Lagonegro came after the longest match in the third round – 2 hours and 13 minutes.
In the next round, Consar Ravenna will visit Conad Reggio Emilia on November 8 at 6:00 PM Bulgarian time.
Meanwhile, another Bulgarian was among the top performers of the round. Setter Stoil Palev from Essens Hotels Fano scored 4 points and shared first place in scoring for his position with Antonino Russo from Ravenna and Davide Saita from Reggio Calabria. Fano recorded a convincing 3:0 victory over ABBA Pineto and climbed to fourth place in the standings with 6 points.
