Partial revenge in Razlog: Levski with a complete comeback against Pirin

Champion Levski Sofia achieved partial revenge against Pirin (Razlog), after winning 3:2 (22:25, 22:25, 25:12, 25:21, 15:10) in a match from the 12th round of efbet Super Volley. The 'Blues' overcame a 0:2 set deficit and achieved a complete comeback in 'September' Hall, but would readily trade this success for the painful 2:3 loss in Samokov from the Cup 1/4-finals.

Pirin controlled the first two sets with aggressive serving and stable net play, led by Mariyan Nakov and Zlatko Kyosev. After that, however, Levski found their rhythm – powerful attack, better defensive organization, and a series of blocks turned the tide of the match. The third set was completely dominated by the visitors, and in the tie-break, the class and deep bench of the champions made the difference. Svetoslav Gotsev was chosen as MVP.

Top scorers (double-digit points)

Team Player Points Rating
Pirin Mariyan Nakov 20 +6
Pirin Teodor Kamenov 14 +7
Pirin Zlatko Kyosev 11 -3
Levski Sofia Gordan Lyutskanov 20 +4
Levski Sofia Todor Skrimov 18 +12
Levski Sofia Julian Weizig 15 +9
Levski Sofia Svetoslav Gotsev 12 +11

Both teams had one 20-point scorer, but the difference came down to depth. Levski had four players with double-digit points and a positive efficiency rating, while for Pirin, the burden fell mainly on Mariyan Nakov and Teodor Kamenov. Zlatko Kyosev's negative balance and the lack of a second consistent scorer in the tie-break tilted the scales in favor of "the Blues".

The team statistics explain why the match went to a tie-break and how exactly Levski won it.

Overall, "the Blues" had a significant advantage in blocks 12:7, as well as higher attack efficiency 57% against 43%. However, Levski did not dominate in all elements. Positive reception was in Pirin's favor 53% against 49%, and serving also tipped the scales towards the hosts with 7:4 aces. A key advantage for the champions came from points after opponent errors 30 against 26, an indicator that clearly speaks to better management of pressure in long rallies.

In the tie-break, the difference was made precisely there. With blocks tied at 2:2, Levski won three more points from Pirin's errors and scored two more attacks. This proved decisive in the short set, where every inaccuracy weighs double. Pirin failed to keep its composure, and Levski capitalized fully on the hosts' hesitations.
In other matches of the round, Deyasport defeated Dunav Ruse at home with a 3:0 (25:17, 25:20, 26:24) score, and Beroe 2016 also won on their home turf with a 3:0 (25:19, 25:20, 25:19) score against Cherno More.
