The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) has suspended the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) with immediate effect due to serious governance issues and alleged violations of the organization's Code of Ethics.
The decision was made by the FIVB Board of Administration in accordance with Article 13.1.1 of the Federation's Disciplinary Regulations. In its official announcement, the international federation states that an investigation against the PNVF is being conducted by the independent FIVB Ethics Commission.
"Despite FIVB's ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a sustainable solution for the future of volleyball in the Philippines, the suspension was deemed necessary to protect the sport, the athletes, and the long-term commitments to the development of volleyball in the country," states the international federation's position.
As part of the measures taken, FIVB is appointing a special ad hoc committee that will manage the activities of the PNVF until the crisis is resolved. The committee is chaired by FIVB Executive Committee member Hila Asanuma and also includes representatives from the international federation's legal and administrative departments.
Among the immediate tasks of the ad hoc committee will be to ensure the participation of Philippine national teams in upcoming international competitions, as well as to guarantee the successful hosting of the upcoming Women's Nations League tournament in the Philippines. We recall that the country was designated to host the Women's World Championship in 2029.

The official announcement does not specify the particular violations that led to the sanction. However, in recent months, serious controversies have accumulated around the Philippine federation concerning the organization's governance and the financial closing of the 2025 Men's World Championship.
The championship took place in the Philippines, with the final phase organized in Pasay City. It was there that the Bulgarian national team reached the final of the World Championship and won silver medals after one of its most successful performances at a world championship in recent decades.
Despite the imposed sanction, FIVB emphasizes that it remains committed to the development of volleyball in the Philippines and has already prepared a clear plan for the federation's full reinstatement after fulfilling the set requirements.
The suspension of the PNVF is one of the most serious disciplinary decisions by the international federation in recent years and comes just a few months after hosting the Men's World Championship, which became the largest volleyball event in the country's history.
