VNL 2026 introduces remote video challenge center

The Volleyball Nations League (VNL) will introduce a remote video review center starting from the 2026 season, Volleyball World officially announced. The new system will be implemented in partnership with the technology company Bolt6 and represents a significant change in the organization of international tournaments.
Until now, each VNL tournament had two video review judges and one on-site technical operator. Starting from this year's edition, some of these functions will be performed remotely through a centralized operational center.
Volleyball World explains that the main goal is to improve the organization of competitions and create a more efficient and sustainable operational model, without affecting the quality of officiating during matches.
The new system is also expected to lead to a significant reduction in carbon emissions. According to preliminary calculations, air travel related to the tournament's organization will be reduced by over 51 percent, which is equivalent to approximately 56 tons fewer harmful emissions compared to the current model.
In addition to environmental benefits, Volleyball World also expects better cost organization and more efficient resource management around the tournament's execution.
The introduction of remote video reviews follows trends in global sports, where more and more federations and organizers are using centralized technological solutions for better consistency in officiating and more sustainable management of major sporting events.
VNL 2026 will be a test season for the new model. During the tournament, Volleyball World and its partners will analyze the system's performance before deciding whether it should be used in other international competitions.
Volleyball World's Chief Product Officer, Marcelo Hargreaves da Costa, stated tovolleyballworld.com:

"The VNL has always been a platform for development and innovation in volleyball, and the remote video review center is another important step in this direction. Our collaborative work with Bolt6 allows us to build a more efficient and sustainable model while maintaining the highest standards in officiating."

With this innovation, the Volleyball Nations League continues to solidify its reputation as a tournament that actively implements modern technologies and seeks more effective solutions in the organization of world volleyball.
