Italy gets into rhythm with three friendlies before the Nations League and the clash with Bulgaria

World champion Italy kicks off the new international season with three consecutive friendly matches at the end of May, which will provide the first real indications of Ferdinando De Giorgi's team's form before the start of the Nations League.

The 'Squadra Azzurra' will play three test matches within four days – against Turkey and Belgium, with two of the matches being against the Turkish team. This will be the first test of their game rhythm and squad rotations after the preparatory period.

Friendly Match Schedule

  • May 28, 7:00 PM – Italy vs. Turkey (Cavalese)

  • May 30, 10:00 PM – Italy vs. Belgium (Verona)

  • May 31, 6:30 PM – Italy vs. Turkey (Bergamo, BPER Test Match)

These friendly matches are also directly significant for the Bulgarian national team, which will face Italy in the second week of the VNL (Volleyball Nations League) in Ljubljana. It will be seen then to what extent the 'Azzurri' have managed to fine-tune their game details from the preparatory period. For Bulgaria, this is an early opportunity to scout their opponent in real game conditions – a factor that could prove crucial in the clash in Ljubljana.
