Maritsa (Plovdiv) continues to make history in Bulgarian volleyball. The "Yellow-Blues" won a record 12th consecutive title in the National Women's Volleyball League, solidifying their complete hegemony over the past decade. Ahmetdjan Erşimşek's team left no doubt about their superiority and closed the final series against Levski with a decisive 3:0 victory.
In the decisive third match, the Plovdiv team prevailed with 3:0 (25:11, 25:17, 25:12) and deservedly lifted the trophy in front of a full house at "Stroitel" Hall, where for the second consecutive year they celebrated the title with their fans.
The match started evenly only until 1:1, after which the hosts took complete control. Maritsa's serve and block disrupted the opponent's reception, and a series of points led to a convincing 18:8 lead. By the end of the set, the Plovdiv team effortlessly closed the part at 25:11 after a middle attack.
In the second set, the scenario remained the same – Maritsa dictated the pace, demonstrating stability in reception and effectiveness in attack, to double their lead after 25:17.
Levski showed a brief impulse in the third set and equalized at 4:4, but this proved to be the only moment of parity. A series of nine consecutive points followed for the hosts, who finally broke their opponent. At 22:9, the outcome was predetermined, and the final point came after an attack by Iva Dudova for 25:12.
The national team player was chosen as the MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the final series – a perfectly logical recognition for her role in key moments.
With this success, Maritsa completed another "golden double", having earlier in the season triumphed in the Bulgarian Cup. Even more impressive is the statistic – the team finishes the championship without a single defeat and with only three lost sets.
The dominance over Levski also takes on historical dimensions. This season, the two teams played six matches in which the "Yellow-Blues" did not concede a single set. Maritsa's winning streak against their capital city rival has now reached 33 consecutive victories, with Levski last winning against the Plovdiv team in 2016.
