Absurdity in Italy: Preslav Petkov's Sorrento returns to A3

Folgore Massa Lubrense-Romeo Sorrento will not play in Serie A2 next season. Not because they didn't deserve it, not because they were weaker than their opponents, but because they have nowhere to play. It all sounds so simple and yet so absurd.
The team earned its salvation on the court – where fates in sports should be decided. Instead, however, the decision came off the field. The expired exception for newcomers and the inability to find a hall meeting the Serie A2 requirements in the entire Sorrento area send the team back to A3.
This is a heavy blow not just for one club, but for an entire project. In recent years, Folgore has established itself as one of the pleasant exceptions in Italian volleyball – a team that builds sustainably, wins, and develops. The Italian Cup and Supercup in 2025 are no coincidence, just as the successes of their youth at the national level are no accident.
And yet – a stop.
Not because of a lack of quality. Not because of a lack of potential. But because of a lack of infrastructure. This is where the most serious question arises. How is it possible that in one of the strongest volleyball markets in the world, there is no hall that meets the requirements of the second division? And even more importantly – how is it possible that the institutions cannot find a solution?

The club clearly states – neither the municipalities, nor the metropolitan city, nor the regional government have been able to offer a solution. This is no longer a sports issue, but a managerial one.
Ultimately, the outcome is simple and painful: Volleyball in Sorrento did not lose its place in Serie A2. The lack of a hall lost it.
And when a team does everything right on the court, but is still pushed back, that is not its failure. That is a failure of the environment that should give it a chance to move forward.
