Scandal with "medical jokers": Paris expelled champion Tour, Asparuhov inadvertently in the eye of the storm

The French SpikeLigue will certainly have a new champion. The reigning title holder Tours ended its participation already in the quarterfinals, eliminated by Paris after two consecutive losses.
The result itself, however, remained secondary. The series between the two teams became the most commented issue in French volleyball – due to the use of the so-called "medical jokers".
The story becomes even more interesting becauseboth teams resort to the same regulatory possibility, but the reaction to them is fundamentally different.
Tours, in its role as champion, attracts Bulgarian national playerAsparuh Asparuhovas a replacement for the injuredLandry Kavogo, who is out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

The situation is clear – a key player is out of the game and the club is looking for an adequate replacement. There are almost no reactions.
In Paris, however, the scenario unfolds differently. The capital team registeredMathis Hennoas a "medical joker" forTom Kroops, diagnosed with a slipped disc. At first glance – an analogous case. However, the procedure did not go smoothly. Initially, the medical commission refused approval, but subsequently, after additional documentation, the transfer still received the green light.
This is where the doubts begin.
The type of injury, the lack of full transparency regarding Kroops' condition, and most importantly, the timing of the recruitment – just before the decisive phase – lead several clubs to question the legitimacy of the move. Is it a real need or the exploitation of a loophole in the rules?
The answer on the court is unequivocal.
Paris not only strengthened its squad – it changed its level. In the second match of the series, the capital team won 3:0 (25:23, 26:24, 25:23) with all three sets decided at crucial points. This is where the difference became evident – composure, effectiveness, and a player who tipped the scales. In this match, Asparuhov scored 9 points.
Mathis Enot finished with 19 points and established himself as a leading factor in the most crucial moments. He even won the MVP award for the match.

This only added fuel to the fire. Banners appeared in the hall in Tours, and the receiver was booed every time he touched the ball.

The symbolism was clear – the dispute had long gone beyond the confines of the court.
The paradox is obvious. Tours also used a 'medical joker' but was eliminated. Paris did the same and eliminated the champion. The difference is not in the rule, but in how it is perceived.
Now all eyes turn to the semi-finals, where intrigue is also not lacking.

Paris will face Poitiers, while the other clash promises a true regional derby.Sète, which eliminated Tourcoing with Veni Antov in the squad, will meetMontpellier, where the Bulgarian middle blocker playsNikolay Kourtev.
Thus, in the shadow of a regulatory dispute, the championship enters its decisive phase.
And the question remains open – did Paris simply find the right moment to strengthen itself, or did it cross the line that separates the permissible from the fair.
