A real precedent occurred in the Estonian Volleyball Super League. Selver x TalTech defeated Bigbank Tartu with3:2 (20:25, 20:25, 25:21, 25:17, 15:0)in the third match of the semi-final series, and the decisive game became an unparalleled event. This was reported by media in the former Soviet republic, includingsport.err.ee.
After four games in which the two teams exchanged supremacy, the match entered an anticipated decisive tie-break. Instead of an even outcome, however, statistics showed something extremely rare – the hosts from Tartu did not score a single point.
The crucial moment proved to be when Markus Keel stood at the service line at the beginning of the fifth game. He remained there until the end, and during this period, Selver scored all 15 points. The data does not indicate that these were solely direct service aces, but the run during his serve was enough to explain Bigbank's collapse.
The development of the game speaks to serious reception problems for the hosts, who failed to organize an effective attack. At the same time, Selver utilized every opportunity – whether through counter-attack, block, or unforced errors.
Even more telling is the match's context. Bigbank won the first two games and was close to victory before Selver made a comeback. It is this sharp transition – from a controlled advantage to a complete collapse in the tie-break – that makes the 15:0 score difficult to explain even by sports standards.
After the match, Tartu's head coach Andrei Ojamets admitted he could not provide a logical explanation for what happened, emphasizing that he had never seen such a development live or in a recording.
Against the backdrop of the previous two matches between the two teams in the series, decided by a minimal difference in the fifth game, this tie-break stands out as an extreme exception. This is precisely what makes it one of the most unusual cases in modern volleyball.
