Just hours before the start of Pool Salvezza, Volley Modena finalized a new transfer, strengthening head coach Biagio Marrone's squad. Elitsa Barakova, a diagonal player born in 1997, arrived from Bulgaria to join the team, complementing the position where Federica Nonnati has so far carried the main burden.
For the "yellow and blues", this is an important move in their attempt to give new impetus to the fight for staying in the league - a goal that seemed complicated after a difficult regular season. However, the club believes that with a strong start in the second phase of the championship, the task can become significantly more realistic, as the difference to the teams ahead of them is not insurmountable.
"Our family is expanding with the arrival of a new diagonal player - Barakova is officially a new player for Volley Modena," the Italian club announced.
Barakova grew up playing volleyball in Bulgaria and took her first steps in women's volleyball with Kazanlak, her hometown team. After that, her career took an international path - she played for CSU Belor Galați (Romania), Beroe (Bulgaria), and also in France, where she represented Laferois, Conflans-Andrésy-Jouy, and Stella Calais. After two seasons with Deya Volley, in the last championship, she was part of VC Dragoman - a newly formed club in Bulgaria's elite league.
Her resume also includes significant moments with the Bulgarian national team, among which is a bronze medal from the U23 World Championship in 2017, as well as participation in the World Grand Prix with the women's team.
Barakova is already available to the coaching staff, and after the registration procedures are completed, she is expected to be available for today's match against Casalmaggiore.
