Polish champions BOGDANKA LUK Lublin recorded one of their weakest matches of the season and logically lost at home to JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel by 0:3 (21:25, 21:25, 16:25) in a match from the 18th round of PlusLiga. Stefan Antiga's team committed a huge number of their own errors and thus handed the victory to the team led by Andrzej Kowal, who played pragmatically, stably, and without encountering difficulties.
Already in the first set, it became clear that the champions lacked the necessary rhythm. Lublin's game was disjointed, their serve failed to put pressure, and their attack lacked variety. Jastrzębski took advantage of this, imposed their calm tempo, and gradually built a lead with fewer errors. Stable organization and better net play secured the first set for the visitors – 25:21.
In the second set, the hosts tried to react, but again, everything came down to individual efforts. Hillir Henno bore the main attacking burden, while Wilfredo Leon struggled to find his rhythm, and the middle blockers were rarely used effectively. With the score tied in the middle of the set, a series of attacking and serving inaccuracies once again tilted the scales in favor of Jastrzębski, who closed the second set without unnecessary risk – 25:21.
The third set became an indicative picture of BOGDANKA's overall performance. Errors multiplied, the game became predictable, and Jastrzębski's block worked excellently. The visitors read every attack and accumulated points one after another, while the hosts looked completely disheartened. The difference quickly became double-digit, and the final 25:16 sealed the heavy 0:3 defeat.
Alex Grozdanov finished with 4 points, 1 block, and a mere 25% attacking efficiency, far from his usual standards and the expectations placed on him as a key middle blocker.
Wilfredo Leon finished with 11 points, but without decisive influence and with key errors in critical moments.
For Jastrzębski, Michał Gierżot was the most consistent, finishing with 15 points and deservedly receiving the MVP award.
This was not a match won brilliantly by Jastrzębski, but a duel in which the champions defeated themselves. The huge number of errors, lack of synchronicity, and weak individual performance in key positions made Andrzej Kowal's team's task more than easy.
