To be honest, I can't gather my thoughts... My head is empty, you understand? I only know that there's one more match. We'll rest and go out on the court. I'm glad I'm not feeling that joy I would have felt in previous years. As juniors, we often suffered from getting over-excited and celebrating too early, before the tournament was over. We learned our lesson, and that's why today we're only thinking about one thing – rest, and tomorrow we're going out to playthe match of our livesagainst Poland or Italy.
There was some tension before the match, but it was fundamentally different from the one in the game against the USA. Today, the pressure was on us because we went in as favorites, and that's not always easy to prove – not just on paper, but on the court as well. We showed that we could. We could have won 3:0, but the important thing is that we did it without going to a fifth set, which used to be the tradition against them. That's very satisfying.
It was a great surprise that my parents are also here. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. This time I truly surpassed my father – I hope to do so withtwo different colored medals. I'm happy they saw their sons win live.
We have an incredible staff, led by Gianlorenzo Blengini. Unlike other years and generations, this team manages to keep us in peak form, even though the tournament is quite peculiar – with many matches, long breaks, and a difficult rhythm. It wouldn't be fair if I didn't also thank the federation, which entrusted us to such good hands.
