Bulgarian opposite Hitter Aleksandar Manushev became the top scorer in the match between Amriswil and Lausanne in the third round of the Swiss championship. The 18-year-old talent scored 23 points, but his team lost away with a score of 1:3 (25:20, 15:25, 21:25, 16:25).
Lausanne started the match excellently and won the first set with 25:20. However, the hosts managed to turn the tide of the match, equalizing after 25:15, and subsequently closing the next two sets at 25:21 and 25:16.
Manushev was the main attacking weapon for the visitors. The former CSKA player finished with 21 points from attack, one ace, and one successful block. The Bulgarian achieved a 38% success rate in attack, receiving an impressive 55 balls out of a total of 101 attacks by his team.
This means that more than half of Lausanne's attacks went through the young opposite hitter, who scored 21 of the team's total 45 successful attacks. The statistics show the significant role Manushev already has in the offensive organization of the Swiss club.
Interestingly, no player from the winners managed to reach his scoring performance. The most points for Amriswil were scored by Ilya Goldrin – 15, followed by Joel Hauck and Manuel Balaguer with 12 each.
Blocking proved crucial for the final outcome. Amriswil scored 10 points from this element against only 2 for Lausanne. The hosts also had a higher attack efficiency – 54% against 45%, which allowed them to take control after losing the first set.
After two consecutive victories at the start of the season, Lausanne suffered its first defeat and now has a record of two wins and one loss.
The next match for Manushev and his teammates is on November 7, when Lausanne will host Colombier in a match from the fourth round of the Swiss National League A.
