Former national team captain Hristina Vuchkova celebrated Tulitsa's first victory in the Russian Super League with poetry. After the away success against Lokomotiv (Kaliningrad), the Bulgarian volleyball player recited a poem by Alexander Pushkin about autumn in Russian, according to the local publication "Klops".
Before her literary performance, Vuchkova also made a significant contribution on the court. Tulitsa overturned the hosts with a 3:1 (19:25, 25:20, 25:18, 27:25) victory in a third-round match played on October 16 in the Yantarny Hall.
The Bulgarian middle blocker was a starter in all four sets and finished with 9 points - 4 in attack, 4 blocks, and 1 ace. She converted four of her six attacks for a 67% success rate, with no errors and no blocked shots, and was the most effective blocker in the match.
The victory marked the debut of Tulitsa's new coach, Igor Zhakich. The visitors lost the first set but found their rhythm and won the next two. In the fourth set, they overcame a large deficit and finished the match 27:25 after an ace by Alexandra Mamedova.
In her comment after the match, Vuchkova highlighted the conversation with the coach after the difficult start and the mutual support among teammates.
"When the team thinks about winning, it yields results. We risked a lot on serve, and that also had an impact," the Bulgarian stated to the official website of the Russian Federation.
Mamedova was the top scorer for Tulitsa with 21 points, and Valeria Turchina added 17. For Lokomotiv, Kissy Nascimento finished with 17 points.
After two defeats at the start, Tulitsa now has its first success in the championship. The next challenge for Vuchkova and her teammates is a home game against the champion Dinamo-Ak Bars (Kazan) on October 25.
