Two tie-breaks and a convincing start for champions Maritsa in the women's Demax+ Super League

The 2026/2027 season of the women's Demax+ Super League began with two five-set battles and a decisive victory for the champion Maritsa (Plovdiv). Dragoman and Slavia had to go through a tie-break to achieve their first successes, while the Plovdiv team left no chances for CPVC.
The most dramatic match of the opening day was played in the "Stroitel" hall in Plovdiv, where Dragoman, led by Anton Petrov, prevailed over Maritsa 2022 with 3:2 (20:25, 25:14, 21:25, 25:23, 16:14). The hosts twice took the lead in sets, but the guests managed to equalize. The fourth set ended with a minimal difference, and in the decisive fifth set, Dragoman snatched the victory with 16:14.
No less contested was the clash between Slavia and Minyor (Pernik) in the capital's "Panayot Pondalov" hall. The team led by Ivan Dimitrov won 3:2 (25:20, 14:25, 25:18, 19:25, 15:12), after twice taking the lead in the score, but allowing an equalization.
In the tie-break, the Pernik team took a 4:1 lead, and later also led 11:9. However, Slavia managed to turn the tide of the decisive set and start the championship with a victory in front of their home crowd.
The champion Maritsa (Plovdiv) had a much calmer evening. The "yellow-blues" defeated CPVC with 3:0 (25:20, 25:13, 25:23) in the "Stroitel" hall and made a successful first step towards their 13th consecutive championship title.
After a relatively even first set, the Plovdiv team established a serious superiority in the second, won with 25:13. The third set was the most contested, in which CPVC offered more serious resistance, but the hosts closed the match at 25:23.
Thus, after the first three matches, Maritsa is the only team with a victory without a lost set, while Dragoman and Slavia added two points each to their tally.
The first round continues over the weekend.
On Saturday (October 17) at 17:30, the newcomer Volleyball Academy "Stoychev and Kaziyski" (VASK) will make its debut in the elite by hosting the vice-champion Levski Sofia in the NSA hall.
The last match of the round is on Sunday (October 18), when CSKA hosts Deyа Volley (Burgas) at 14:30.
Ten teams are participating in the 2026/2027 Demax+ Super League season, and the championship will go through a regular season with home and away matches, followed by playoffs.
