The European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) will hold discussions regarding the impact of the International Volleyball Federation's (FIVB) latest decision on competitions under its aegis. This is evident from an official written response from the CEV press office toVolleyWeek.
Until these discussions are concluded, the European governing body will not make further comments on the matter.
After the FIVB Board of Administration adopted a decision on July 8, allowing Russian athletes and technical officials to return to competitions under the aegis of the world federation, and restoring Russia's national teams to the world rankings with the points they had at the time of their suspension in 2022, CEV states that they will now discuss the impact of this decision on their competitions.
"CEV notes the decision of the FIVB Board of Administration, following the updated recommendations of the IOC Executive Board, and will promptly hold discussions regarding the impact of this decision on CEV competitions."
The European Confederation further clarifies:
"Please note that we will not make further comments on this matter until the aforementioned discussions are concluded."
EuroVolley 2026 is not subject to discussion
In its official response toVolleyWeekCEV also makes an important clarification regarding the 2026 European Championship.
"Participation in CEV EuroVolley 2026 is not subject to discussion, as the national teams of Russia and Belarus failed to register for participation and were not part of the qualification process for the tournament."
Thus, the European Confederation officially confirms that the upcoming European Championship does not fall within the scope of the upcoming discussions. The reason is that Russia and Belarus did not participate in the qualification process, and therefore the question of their participation in EuroVolley 2026 is not on the agenda.
Currently, CEV has not announced when the discussions will conclude or when an official position regarding the impact of the FIVB decision on competitions under its aegis will be announced.
