Brazil. Another surprise marked the first day of the first week of the Volleyball Nations League in Brazil. Following Bulgaria's unexpected loss to debutant Belgium, this time favorite Argentina conceded to Serbia's rejuvenated squad with a score of 1:3 (23:25, 20:25, 27:25, 24:26).
The success brought valuable points to our western neighbors for the world ranking, climbing them to 12th place in the FIVB standings, while the Argentinians remained eighth.
The match also held special significance for Bulgaria, as our national team will play its last match of the first VNL tournament precisely against Serbia.
Serbia imposed an aggressive style
Gheorghe Crețu's team started very confidently. The Serbs served strongly and risked, attacked effectively, and showed good organization in blocking. Setter Batak excellently managed the game and found diverse solutions in offense.
At the heart of the success was opposite hitter Veljko Mašulović, who led the team with 19 points. He received excellent support from Marinović, who scored 13 points.
Argentina only managed to get back into the match at the end of the third set. The South Americans saved three match points and snatched the set 27:25, extending the intrigue.
In the fourth set, however, the young Serbian squad withstood the pressure and closed the match 26:24, securing a prestigious victory against one of their traditionally challenging opponents.
