As we reported on April 20, national setter Stoil Palev will continue his career in Italy. The news is now a fact – the young playmaker signed with Fano (Essence Hotels), which will compete in Serie A2 in the 2026/2027 season.
The transfer marks the first venture abroad for the 22-year-old Sofia native, who comes after a strong campaign with Levski Sofia – a championship title and recognition as the most valuable player in the league. It was this performance that opened the doors to one of the most competitive leagues in Europe.

In Italy, Palev will not be alone – in Fano, he will partner with another Bulgarian national, outside hitter Denis Karyagin. This automatically makes the team an interesting prospect for Bulgarian fans and creates prerequisites for good synergy on the court between the two.
"This is my first experience outside Bulgaria, and everything will be new for me. I am sure I will adapt quickly because I am going to a country where volleyball is not just a sport, but a culture," commented Palev during his presentation.
Despite his youth, the setter already has an impressive resume – Bulgarian champion, MVP, vice-world champion with the youth national team, and part of the men's team for the Nations League. His move to Serie A2 is a logical next step in his development.
"I expect to develop every day and grow both on and off the court. I am very ambitious, I love to work and fight for every ball," he added.
His decision to choose Italy is not accidental. In recent years, a number of Bulgarian volleyball players have made a name for themselves there, and their experience has also influenced his choice.
"I have spoken with Bulgarians who played in Italy – everyone shared excellent impressions. I know that Serie A2 is a very strong league, and that motivates me even more."
With the signing of Palev, Fano clearly shows its ambition to build a team with potential and perspective. For the Bulgarian national team, this transfer is another plus – a key setter will develop in an environment with high intensity and tactical culture, which will inevitably reflect on his performance with the national jersey.
