The champions from Maritza (Plovdiv) have signed their first new foreign addition for the 2024-2025 season, the club's website announced. German national team player Vanessa Agbortabi will play for Maritza.
The volleyball player plays as an outside hitter and has a serious career, currently being part of the German women's national team in the Nations League. She last played for Israeli Maccabi (Haifa) last season, with whom she won the Israeli Cup. In her career, Vanessa has also played for the strong German team of Potsdam (Potsdam), with whom she is a silver medalist from the Bundesliga and the German Cup and has a third place in the Cup tournament. She has also played for teams from Greece, France, and Germany. Vanessa Agbortabi received her first call-up for the women's national team in the 2018-2019 season, when she participated in the Nations League. She has been in the German squad for the Nations League in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Vanessa Agbortabi will be the second German to wear Maritza's jersey after Kathleen Weiss, who played for the club in the 2018-2019 season.
Vanessa Agbortabi becomes the champions' tenth volleyball player for the new season after Zhana Todorova, Borislava Saykova, Dobrina Hristoskova, Viktoria Koeva, Iva Dudova, Lora Slavcheva, Margarita Guncheva, Mila Pashkuleva, and Boryana Angelova.
