Volleyball club Levski Sofia made a serious statement regarding the development of its women's section, after attracting Serbian specialist Dragan Nesic as head coach of the silver medalists. The appointment comes at a time when "the Blues" are consolidating their strategy of working with young players and building upon achievements from recent seasons.
Nesic is not an unknown name in Bulgarian volleyball. He has already had two stints at the helm of the Bulgarian women's national team, and last summer successfully led the U21 selection, which reached a prestigious fourth place in the world. His work with youth players fits perfectly into the long-term concept of the capital club.
"This is a new page in my career, as well as for the Levski Sofia club. I am motivated to use my experience and help young players develop, which is also the club's policy. My goal is for us to learn to play more attractive volleyball with the women's team, as well as at all age levels," commented Nesic during his presentation.
The management of "the Blues" did not hide their satisfaction with the reached agreement. President David Davidov emphasized that attracting a coach with such a resume is an important step towards building a sustainable and competitive squad.
"We are pleased that we managed to attract a specialist with such a resume and that he accepted to work for the development of our young players. We are confident that Dragan will contribute to building an even stronger squad and to the development of the women's section of the club," stated Davidov.
Nesic's appointment is a clear signal that Levski Sofia will continue to invest in the future and seek a balance between results and development. The Serbian coach faces the task of not only keeping the team among the leaders in Bulgaria but also implementing a modern and attractive style of play that will take "the Blues" to the next level.
