Fenerbahçe Medicana women's volleyball team surprisingly lost their away game to Zeren Spor in a match from Week 9 of the Vodafone Sultans League. The opening match of the week ended with a 3-2 victory for the hosts (25-27, 25-12, 26-24, 20-25, 15-11). For Fenerbahçe, who were considered the favorites in the match, Magdalena Stysiak finished with the most points with 15, Eda Erdem Dündar recorded 12 points, Ana Cristina de Souza added 11 points, and Aslı Kalaç finished with 10 points.
Elitsa Vasileva-Atanasijevic entered the last two sets and scored a modest 5 points (1 block). Hristina Vučković did not play any minutes.
In the match, played at the "Ziraat Bankkart" sports hall, Fenerbahçe Medicana was trailing 18-16 in the first set. Head coach Marco Fenoglio took a timeout at 19-19, after which, with a score of 21-19, the Yellow Angels took the lead with Cristina's points and won the first set. The visitors, who failed to show their desired game in the second and third sets, lost these parts with 25-12 and 26-24 respectively, making the score 2-1. In the fourth set, after trailing 1-5, the Istanbul team managed to equalize to 9-9, forcing the opponent to take a timeout. After the break, Fenerbahçe Medicana continued with their controlled play and won the set 20-25, leveling the match at 2-2. In the decisive set, the Yellow Angels fell behind 2-4 and despite their attempts, they could not turn the score around, losing the set 15-11 and the match 3-2.
Fenerbahçe is second in the provisional standings, before today's match between Vakıfbank and Turkish Airlines, whose outcome will determine the ranking of Elitsa Vasileva and company.
