Łukasz Żygadło's Częstochowa remains in PlusLiga after Jastrzębski Węgiel's withdrawal

Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Częstochowa will retain its place in PlusLiga for the 2026/2027 season, despite being relegated on sporting grounds after finishing last. This became possible due to JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel's withdrawal from the championship for financial reasons, which opened up a spot in the elite league. All Polish media outlets are reporting on the case.
The club's president, Łukasz Żygadło (who was a setter during the golden years of BG Trento from 2008-2012, editor's note), confirmed the news during a special press conference. "We are happy that we managed to keep PlusLiga in Częstochowa," he stated, effectively confirming that the club will continue its participation at the highest level.

The past season was extremely difficult for the team, which recorded only 4 wins and 22 losses, accumulating 17 points and finishing last in the standings – 6 points behind the second-to-last team. The performance was a serious disappointment for both the management and the fans, and the team seemed certain to be relegated.
Nevertheless, following Jastrzębski's withdrawal, an administrative decision was reached, allowing Częstochowa to remain in the elite league, provided it meets the licensing requirements. Thus, the club gets a second chance, which the management accepts as an opportunity for a fresh start.
Żygadło admitted that the reasons for the poor season are complex and are already being analyzed in detail. The club is adamant that the necessary conclusions will be drawn to avoid a repeat of such a situation.
Częstochowa's main goal is now to build a more stable and competitive squad. Emphasis will be placed on the development of young players and their integration into the first team, as they are seen as key to a more sustainable future.
In parallel, player selection for the new season is underway, with the club's ambition not just to fight for survival, but gradually to build a team capable of competing for playoff spots.
