After another season spent in the strong Italian championship and with significant international experience gained, Martin Atanasov's future logically sparked interest regarding his next step. The Bulgarian national player remains among those who do not compromise with the level of competition, and his choice this summer is no exception. According to reports in Greek media, the 29-year-old outside hitter will continue his career with Greek powerhouse Olympiacos. There he will be one of the foreign players, and together with Raptis and Kotsakos, he will form the primary trio for this position. The club is still working on attracting another outside hitter for this area.
Atanasov arrives with the profile of a complete player, having experienced various volleyball cultures – Turkey (Ziraat, Galatasaray), Russia (Lokomotiv Novosibirsk), France (Chaumont), Germany (Friedrichshafen), and Italy (Monza), after starting his journey from Dobrudzha 07.
However, the national team remains the stage where he made his strongest recent performance. On September 27 last year – on his birthday – Atanasov played the match of his life against the Czech Republic in the semifinals of the World Championship in Manila and was among the key figures for Bulgaria reaching the final against Italy.

With the acquisition of the Bulgarian outside hitter, Olympiacos adds not just another name to its squad, but a player who has proven he can carry the weight of big matches.
Many Bulgarian national players have passed through the club - Plamen Konstantinov, Boyan Yordanov, Hristo Tsvetanov, Andrey Zhekov, Dimo Tonev, and Nikolay Zhelyazkov.
