Marcello Abbondanza has finalized his staff for the Bulgarian women's national team, bringing in Italian Daniele Turino as his assistant – a well-known name from their joint work at Fenerbahçe.
Turino has significant international experience, including as an assistant in the Slovenian national team, as well as a rich club career in Italy and Asia. His choice suggests that Abbondanza is relying on established trust and synergy within the coaching staff.
In the first days after the Italian's appointment, expectations logically arose that Maritsa Plovdiv's coach Ahmetcan Erşimşek might join the staff. The Turkish specialist seemed a perfectly logical option – both due to his work with a large part of the national team players and his excellent knowledge of the domestic championship.
However, developments around him took a different turn. After being part of Giovanni Guidetti's staff for the Canadian national team last season, Erşimşek is now joining Felix Koslowski's team in the Dutch national team.
Thus, the option with the Maritsa coach is ruled out, and Abbondanza opts for a familiar model – a staff built around his trusted specialists.
Dimo Tonev will be the national team's team manager, who already has experience in Abbondanza's team from his previous tenure in charge of Bulgaria, when he served as an assistant on the staff.
