There is a high probability that Nikolay Penchev will play in the Bulgarian championship, volleyweek.bg has learned. The legendary outside hitter could join CSKA for the 2024/25 season. The Pirin youth academy product last played for Fenerbahce and has been training with the 'reds' this summer to stay in shape. According to sources close to CSKA management, this could become a reality by the end of this week, when Penchev will find out if he has offers from abroad. At the beginning of his international career, the former national team player joined Piacenza. Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, PGE Skra, Belchatow, Stocznia Szczecin, ONICO, Warszawa. Aluron Virtu CMC Zawiercie, Cuprum Lubin, PSG Stal Nysa. After his 'Polish' period, during which he became champion twice, Penchev moved for one season to the French AS Cannes, after which he played for the Challenge Cup winner, Ukrainian Epicentr-Podolyany.
As early as December 2023, Niki Penchev hinted that he would like to play at home to be closer to his family. Also that same year, Penchev returned to the national team for the home European Championship and Olympic qualifiers.
