A new volleyball initiative featuring proven names from the recent past is now a reality. Former national team players Viktor Yosifov and Danail Milushev are joining forces in a joint project – VAYM Yosifov-Milushev Volleyball Academy in Varna.
The two are part of the strong generation of Bulgarian volleyball and today they are directing their accumulated international experience towards the development of aspiring athletes. The main focus of the academy is placed on building stable technical foundations, as well as on discipline, perseverance, and the right attitude towards the game.
Viktor Yosifov is among the most successful Bulgarian middle blockers – a bronze medalist from the 2009 European Championship and part of the squad that reached fourth place at the London 2012 Olympic Games. A long-standing captain of the national team, he gained significant experience in elite championships such as the Italian Serie A1, Germany, and Poland. Yosifov ended his playing career at the end of 2025 as a player for Cherno More (Varna).
His project partner Danail Milushev also has an impressive resume. Born on February 3, 1984, in Varna, he established himself as one of Bulgaria's strong opposite hitters, known for his powerful serve and effective attack. Milushev is a bronze medalist from the 2003 Junior World Championship, where he also won the individual award for best server. He has been part of the men's national team squad since 2004 and participated in the 2014 World Championship.
His club career includes leading European championships – Italy, Turkey, France, and Belgium, where he played for teams such as Milano, Halkbank, Tours, and Roeselare. In his coaching career, Milushev was at the helm of Cherno More (Varna) until December 2025.
The initiative in Varna is not an isolated case. Already in 2019, Radostin Stoychev and Matey Kaziyski established the Stoychev-Kaziyski Academy, which established itself as one of the leading projects for the development of young athletes in Bulgaria.
The Academy has already announced its first open meeting with children and parents, with which it will kick off its activities.
