The first semifinal pair in the Polish PlusLiga is now a fact, after PGE Projekt Warszawa closed the series against Jastrzębski Węgiel and secured a place in the top 4. Thus, it became clear that the team from Warsaw will be the opponent of Alex Grozdanov and Bogdanka LUK Lublin in the battle for the final.
The quarterfinal series between the two giants offered intrigue, but in the decisive third match, everything was settled definitively. In front of their home crowd, Projekt Warszawa won 3:0 (25:20, 25:17, 25:13) and put an end to Jastrzębski Węgiel's ambitions.
The Warsaw team demonstrated full control, not allowing their opponent to cross the 20-point mark in two of the sets. National team player Bartosz Bednorz played the strongest match, finishing with 18 points, including 4 aces and 3 successful blocks, while also being stable in reception. He also won the MVP award.
The clash between Projekt Warszawa and Jastrzębski Węgiel went through three matches, with the Warsaw team winning the first 3:0, Jastrzębski equalized after a dramatic 3:2, but in the decisive third match, the capital team was undisputed and won 3:0.
Bogdanka LUK Lublin, where national team captain Alex Grozdanov plays, had already secured a spot in the semifinals after two clean victories over Skra Bełchatów – 3:0 and 3:0.
Now, for Stefan Antiga's team, an extremely interesting clash against Projekt Warszawa awaits. The two teams met very recently in the Champions League, where the Warsaw team eliminated Lublin and deprived them of participation in the Final Four. This turns the semifinal into a direct rematch with high stakes.
The semifinal series will be played to two wins out of three matches, with the first match scheduled for the weekend in Warsaw.
The stakes are serious – a place in the PlusLiga final and a direct quota for the group stage of the Champions League in the 2026/2027 season.
An extremely contested series is expected, in which Alex Grozdanov and his teammates will seek revenge and a breakthrough to the final in an attempt to defend the title.
