Marcello Abbondanza and Fenerbahçe in the final in Turkey

The current head coach of the Bulgarian women's national team, Marcello Abbondanza, led Fenerbahçe to the Sultanlar League final after his team defeated Zeren Spor 3:1 (24:26, 26:24, 25:21, 27:25) in the second semi-final match, closing the series with a 2-0 success.

Following the decisive 3:0 (25:17, 25:22, 25:19) win in the first match, the "Yellow Angels" left no doubt about their superiority and qualified for the championship final for the sixth consecutive time.

The match in Istanbul started difficult for the hosts, who lost the first set 24:26. In the subsequent sets, however, Fenerbahçe's class spoke for itself.
Melissa Vargas was once again a key factor in attack, and Arina Fedorovtseva made the difference in the third set, when the hosts accumulated a solid lead (15:9) and took control of the match.
In the most intense fourth set, Fenerbahçe demonstrated character and stability in key rallies, closing the match after 27:25 and ending the series.
The stars decided everything

Fenerbahçe relied on its two main scorers:

On the other side, Zeren Spor also had its leaders:

  • Anna Lazareva – 23 points

  • Aleksandra Uzelac – 26 points

However, the difference came in Fenerbahçe's efficiency and better ball distribution.

Fenerbahçe clearly excelled in attack and serve, which proved decisive. Cerin compensated with more blocks and points from opponent errors, but it wasn't enough. The difference in attack efficiency and better control in key rallies tilted the match in favor of Abondanza's team.
Qualifying for the final comes at a time when Fenerbahçe's season so far hasn't fully met expectations – elimination from European tournaments and disappointment in the Turkish Cup.
It was in this situation that Marcello Abondanza's experience proved decisive. The Italian specialist stabilized the team in the most important phase of the season and brought them back into the title race.
In the final, Fenerbahçe will face the winner of the clash between VakıfBank and Eczacıbaşı Dynavit – a classic derby of Turkish volleyball.
Given their displayed form and squad depth, Abondanza's team enters the decisive series with real chances to salvage the season and fight for the championship title.
