The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation has taken a key step towards the realization of the project for building a Home of Volleyball. According to information we have, the future complex is planned for a northern district of Sofia, and one of the advantages of the location will be its proximity to a metro station.
Officially, however, the federation is refraining from naming the specific location at this stage. During a press conference, the president of the BFV, Lyubomir Ganev, emphasized that the project would be realized in Sofia, but refused to go into details about the site until the procedures are finalized.
The management of the federation confirmed that a location has already been identified and a conceptual design is being worked on, with ongoing discussions with the Sofia Municipality and state institutions.
The ambition is for the future Home of Volleyball to be a comprehensive national complex. It is planned to build two or three halls within it, with the main one having a capacity of about 2000-2500 spectators and capable of hosting qualifying matches and youth tournaments. Training facilities are also planned, with at least one of them being accessible to clubs and citizens.
The project also includes a hotel section with approximately 60-80 rooms, the federation's office, a fitness and recovery center, as well as a restaurant. The idea is that when hosting international qualifiers, all participating teams will be accommodated and serviced in one place, which will optimize costs and organization.
The BFV also emphasized the serious need for new training facilities. Following the successes of the national teams, interest in volleyball among children has significantly increased, and currently, clubs in many places lack the capacity to accommodate all interested individuals.
According to preliminary estimates, the construction of such a complex will cost between 15 and 20 million euros. The federation's goal is for the project to become a long-term investment in the development of Bulgarian volleyball and to provide modern conditions for both national teams and youth.
