Italian Balducci Macerata is showing interest in Bulgarian opposite hitter Mikaela Stoyanova, reports Lorenzo Monachesi from "Il Resto del Carlino" (Macerata edition), quoted by iVolley Magazine. This is information from the transfer market regarding squad selection for the 2026/27 season, not a finalized transfer.
Stoyanova is currently part of Megabox Vallefoglia and is finishing the season with her team, which continues its participation in the Challenge Playoffs.
The interest in the Bulgarian player is not accidental. Last season, coach Valerio Lionetti only had Klara Decortes in the opposite hitter position – something that limited options in that area.
Stoyanova fits the profile of someone who can provide:
squad depth
competition in a key position
a different attacking option
Her statistics during the season also suggest the logic of such a move – 28 matches, 93 sets, and 22 points, which indicates a limited role at Vallefoglia. In a team like Macerata, she could receive significantly more playing time and a more clearly defined role in offense.
Balducci Macerata is a newcomer to the elite, having debuted in Serie A1 this season after being promoted from A2. The team fulfilled its main task – it retained its spot, finishing in 12th position in the regular season.
Furthermore, the team participated in the Challenge Playoffs for fifth place, which grants a spot in the Challenge Cup – a sign that the club is gradually building a more ambitious profile, even though it is already out of the real battle for first place in its group.
Against this backdrop, the interest in Stoyanova is completely logical – as part of the process of upgrading the squad and increasing competition in key positions.
While Macerata is already looking ahead to next season, Megabox Vallefoglia remains at the center of the sports intrigue. The team still has real chances to fight for first place in Group B of the Challenge Playoffs, which grants the right to participate in the final for fifth place and a spot in the Challenge Cup.
The situation, however, is not straightforward. Vallefoglia is three points behind leader Cuneo and has one game less, but San Giovanni also remains in contention and could intervene in the battle depending on the results in the last round.
Thus, the final outcome in the group remains completely open, and the direct clash between Vallefoglia and Cuneo will be crucial, but not the only decisive factor.
It is precisely at this moment, while Vallefoglia is "sweating" for a spot in Europe, that Mikaela Stoyanova finds herself in an interesting position – part of a team in an active battle, but also the subject of transfer interest from a club that is already planning its next move.
