The idea for the exhibition match between Italy and the World Team, which will conclude the celebrations for the 80th anniversary of the Italian Volleyball Federation, is already generating serious interest. The logical question is – will we see Bulgarian volleyball players among the world stars who will face the "Squadra Azzurra"?
As of now, the official lineup for the "World Team" has not yet been announced, but traditionally, such events bring together the brightest figures from the international scene. Bulgaria has names that have established themselves at a high level in European championships and club volleyball over the last 2-3 years, making it entirely realistic for Bulgarian representatives to receive an invitation.
Such a match is not just a show, but a form of recognition for individual class and international authority. That is precisely why a potential Bulgarian participation would be a strong sign of our country's standing in world volleyball, especially given the rejuvenation and development of the national team in recent seasons.
The initiative itself was announced during the Italian Volleyball Hall of Fame ceremony in Bologna – an event that gathered the elite of the sport. Leaders from FIVB, CEV, and ParaVolley Europe were present, as well as leading figures from the Italian federation and institutional life.
During the celebration, a special jubilee medal dedicated to FIPAV's 80th anniversary was also presented. The award incorporates the federation's symbolism and highlights the world titles won, underscoring the historical successes of Italian volleyball.
However, the final highlight remains the upcoming 'Italy vs. The World' spectacle – an event that will showcase not only the history but also the current significance of the Italian school. And whether a Bulgarian name will find a place in this elite selection, remains to be seen.
