Georgi Tatarov with a brief appearance in the loss to Spor Toto

Spor Toto with a decisive 3:0 over Galatasaray, the battle for the Top 4 is heating up.

March 1, 2026, Ankara – Spor Toto recorded an extremely important victory in the 22nd round of the Turkish SMS Grup Efeler Ligi, after defeating Galatasaray HDI Sigorta 3:0 (25:17, 25:19, 29:27) in the TVF Ziraat Bankkart hall. The success moved the capital team to 41 points after their 14th victory in 21 matches and kept them firmly in the battle for a place in the top four.

The hosts controlled the first two sets with aggressive serving and stability in attack. In the first set, Spor Toto set a high pace and limited the opponent's reception for a 25:17 score. The second set followed a similar scenario – better defensive organization and effectiveness in the finishing hit led to 25:19.

The third set was the most contested. Galatasaray raised its level in attack and maintained equality for a long time, but in the key rallies, the hosts showed stronger nerves and closed out the match.

Jesus Herrera led the scoring list with 19 points, Oreol Camejo added 15, and Marko Ivović contributed 11 points. Mustafa Koç and Emin Gök contributed 6 points each.

For Galatasaray, Jean Patry was the top scorer with 14 points, Thomas Jaeschke scored 9, Ahmet Tümer - 8, and Gökçen Yüksel - 7 points.

Bulgarian international Georgi Tatarov made a brief appearance in the first set. He scored 1 point from an attack and committed an error on his only serve.

The difference came from Spor Toto's better attacking efficiency and more stable serving, which hindered Galatasaray's organization. In the decisive moments of the third set, the hosts were more precise in both attack and block, which ultimately tipped the scales.

Given the remaining rounds, the success could prove strategic for the final standings in the regular season.
