Alex Nikolov's 22 points were not enough for Lube to come back against Modena

Cucine Lube Civitanova lost to Valsa Group Modena with a score of 2:3 (17:25, 22:25, 25:17, 25:18, 13:15) in a dramatic clash from the Italian SuperLega. Thus, the team from Civitanova remains in 6th position with 35 points and their ninth loss for the season, while Modena is in 4th place with 41 points. For Modena, this is their first victory in Civitanova since 2019.

Bulgarian international Alex Nikolov finished as the top scorer in the match with 22 points (+2 efficiency), realizing 2 aces, 1 block, and finishing with 48% attack efficiency. In support of Nikolov, Eric Loeppky added 11 points, and Argentine opposite Pablo Koukartsev – 12, but this was not enough for a full comeback. The presence of Bulgarian fans in the stands also didn't help.

Team Statistics

Indicator Lube Modena
Blocks 8 8
Attack % 46% 49%
Attack Points 48 49
Positive Reception 39% 50%
Aces 7 8
Points from Opponent Errors 39 35
Total Points 102 100

The numbers show how evenly matched the game was. Blocking was completely even, and the difference in attack was minimal – 46% versus 49% efficiency. The key element, however, was reception – 50% positive for Modena versus 39% for Lube, which provided a more stable foundation for organizing the attack. Although Lube won more points from opponent errors and even had two more total points in the match, Modena's cleaner play in the decisive moments made the difference.

The Tie-Break – Errors Tilted the Scales

The fifth set was decided mainly by discipline. Lube committed 6 errors, while Modena only 3, which proved fatal in such an evenly matched encounter. This difference in concentration in the decisive rallies brought the valuable success to the guests.

Before the match, Alex Nikolov was honored with a commemorative plaque, which read "our best ace" – a symbolic sign of respect for his role in the Lube squad.
