Alex Nikolov played another strong match in the Champions League and was named MVP in Cucine Lube Civitanova's third consecutive victory in Group E. The Italian team defeated Polish PGE Project Warsaw away with a score of 3:0 (25:19, 25:21, 27:25), securing their first place in the group.
The Bulgarian international was the most productive player in the match with 19 points, once again leading his team's attack and posing a constant threat to the hosts' defense.

Последваха няколко изравнявания, преди италианският тим да вземе нещата в свои ръце и да поведе с 14:18, след 13-ата точка до момента за Алекс Николов. В края на гейма се наредиха грешки и от двете страни, а след сервис в аут дойде и първият геймбол за Лубе. Ерик Льопки пусна технично топката зад блока и затвори частта – 25:21.
Трети гейм
Третата част предложи най-голямата доза драматизъм. Тя започна с нова точка за Николов – 14-а в мача, а след това водачеството се сменяше няколко пъти. Домакините на няколко пъти правеха серии от по 2–3 точки и поддържаха интригата жива. В края Лубе поведе с 20:22, но допусна изравняване. Ботоло първи донесе мачбол за гостите, последва таймаут за домакините и ново изравняване и мсарване на гейма в продължения. При втория мачбол за Лубе Гарджило завърши успешно през центъра и сложи край на спора – 27:25.
Индивидуално представяне
Алекс Николов завърши с 19 точки, коефициент +11 и 56% успеваемост в атака.
Съвсем заслужено българинът получи приза за MVP на двубоя.
Матия Ботоло добави 11 точки, а Ерик Льопки – 10 точки за чистата победа.
В състава на домакините нито един състезател не достигна двуцифрен точков актив.

The decisive difference came from their play in attack and block. Lube scored 10 more points in attack and had more than double the advantage in blocking, which fully compensated for their minimal deficit in serving. Warsaw relied heavily on opponent errors, but this was not enough against the more effective and better-organized Italian team. It was this stability in the main elements that allowed Lube to close the match in three sets and consolidate their group leadership.
After the match, Alex Nikolov commented to the club's website:
“We prepared well, we were ready, but certainly the quality of the opposing team was different compared to the match against Perugia. In my opinion, today Projekt didn't even show half of their usual game. This is the second strongest team in PlusLiga – one of the strongest championships along with SuperLega Credem Banca. However, we were concentrated in all sets, with the exception of a small drop at the end, which did not affect our clear victory. Sometimes we tend to relax, although big teams shouldn't slow down. This is food for thought and something we need to improve upon.”
