Reggers trembles, Nikolov advances: one less match, 12 points difference and a storm in the battle for top scorer №1 in Serie A1

The race for the top scorer award in the Italian Serie A1 during the 2025/2026 season is entering a particularly intriguing phase. After the matches of the 5th round of the second half of the regular season, the Belgian Ferre Reggers (Allianz Milano) is at the top of the individual points ranking, closely followed by Aleksandar Nikolov (Cucine Lube Civitanova), who, however, has one less game due to a suspension resulting from accumulating two red cards.

Individual ranking " top 3 scorers

Pos. Player Team Matches played Sets played Points Points/set
1 Ferre Reggers Allianz Milano 16 60 321 5,35
2 Aleksandar Nikolov Cucine Lube Civitanova 15 56 309 5,52
3 Keita Naomori Rana Verona 16 53 258 4,87

Although Reggers leads in total points, statistics clearly show that Nikolov is more effective " more points per set on average. The difference of just 12 points between the two, with one less match played by the Bulgarian, highlights how fragile the leader's advantage is.

Contrasting recent matches

In their last match, Allianz Milano suffered a home defeat to Piacenza, and Reggers' performance was far below his usual level. The Belgian finished with 9 points, -7, 38% attack efficiency, and was blocked 5 times. This was one of the rare matches where he failed to exceed 10 points and be a decisive factor for his team.

On the other hand, Aleksandar Nikolov's performance during the away game against bottom-ranked Grottazzolina was outstanding. The Bulgarian international finished the match with 18 points, +6, 55% attack efficiency, and was blocked only once. A controlled, mature, and effective performance that solidified his role as Lube's primary scorer.

An objective view, however, requires clarification " both scorers racked up their points against opponents of different classes and current form. Piacenza is on the rise, holding 5th place in the standings, just one point ahead of 6th-placed Lube, while Grottazzolina remains an underdog.

Tough challenges in the next round

The upcoming round promises new answers in the battle for the top spot in the scoring chart:

  • Milano visits champions Trentino, who will be looking for a mandatory reaction after the shocking 1:3 loss to Modena, which dropped the team to 3rd place in the standings.

  • Lube hosts leader Perugia in an extremely tough home match. The two teams already met in the Cup quarter-final, where Perugia prevailed, and now the hosts will be looking for revenge.

It is in these matches that the next decisive points will be accumulated for Reggers and Nikolov – two top scorers who are within arm's reach of each other. The battle for first place in this prestigious individual ranking is yet to intensify and promises to be one of the major storylines of the season in Serie A1.
