With an entirely reserve squad, Bogdanka LUK Lublin suffered a home defeat to PlusLiga newcomer InPost HKS Chelm with a score of 1:3 (17:25, 25:20, 23:25, 27:29) in a match from the 16th round of PlusLiga. After participating in the Polish Cup final tournament last Sunday, where the champions won the trophy, and in view of the upcoming away game against Skra Belchatow on Saturday, the coaching staff rested the starters and provided an opportunity for players with less playing time to perform. However, they failed to withstand the last-placed team in the standings, who played one of their most stable matches of the season. Polish media described the loss as a minor sensation.
The match started with complete dominance from the guests, who convincingly won the first set. This happened despite the presence of Kevin Sasak and Finian McCarthy on the court. The opposite hitter scored 5 points, and the Canadian added 2 more, after which both were taken out of the game. Lublin's reserve squad managed to react in the second set, but in the crucial moments of the third and fourth sets, when they managed to save three match points and had the opportunity to force a tie-break, the lack of game rhythm and experience in decisive situations took its toll.
The loss, which is their fourth, could affect Bogdanka's standing, as they are still in first place, but ahead of tomorrow's match of second-placed Projekt Warsaw, who, if successful, will displace the champions from the top spot. The defeat showed that in the absence of the starters, the difference in level compared to other PlusLiga teams significantly decreases, while for HKS Chelm, the success could be an important psychological boost in their fight for survival.
