For the first time before Bulgarian television, one of the leaders of our national volleyball team, Aleksandar Nikolov, publicly commented on the tension that briefly arose between him and his club team, Lube Civitanova.
After Italian media blew up a scandal, according to which the Bulgarian national player accused his club of lying in the case of the separation with Porya Hossein, Alex decided to clarify the matter. Immediately after his strong performance against Padova, when he became Lube's top scorer, Nikolov offered apologies, andexclusively for bTValso revealed his point of view.
"It was about one person, not the club"
"The story is long and I prefer not to delve into it. I said things directed at a specific person, because the club did nothing to me or to him. At one point, I slipped and used the word "the club" instead of being more precise. That's how a big misunderstanding occurred," Nikolov explainedto bTV.
He was adamant that Lube's management did not deserve such treatment.
"The president and the club themselves do not deserve this. We have always looked in one direction and will continue to do so. It was all a matter of a few hours of misunderstanding ", Alex added, "something that does not weaken us, but on the contrary, makes us stronger."
A possible tandem with Moni Nikolov?
In his conversationexclusively for bTVAleksandar Nikolov also commented on reports that in the near future he might play for Lube alongside his brother Simeon Nikolov.
"Nothing is certain at this stage. In sports, things don't happen so far in advance. We are awaiting confirmation and Moni's future will become clearer in the coming days," Alex said.
He did not hide that their potential joint presence in a club team also brings uncertainties.
"We don't know how it will be ", Nikolov emphasized, "we might get along, or we might argue. That's normal. But wherever he goes, he will perform excellently. Moni is extremely talented and very hardworking."
Favorite for "Athlete of the Year"
Aleksandar Nikolov is among the main contenders for the "Athlete of the Year" award for 2025, after being a leader of the national team during the strong World Championship and finishing the tournament as the top scorer.
"I don't follow the voting. This is an award that would certainly make me happy, but there are other great athletes. We still finished second. There are athletes like Ivet, like Carlos. Ultimately, the journalists will decide," Alex statedexclusively for bTV.
