Alex Grozdanov and Bogdanka made history - first Polish Cup after a 3-0 final over Resovia

Bogdanka LUK Lublin continued to accumulate trophies and made history in Polish volleyball. After the Supercup, the Lublin team also won the Polish Cup, decisively defeating Asseco Resovia (Rzeszów) 3:0 (25:15, 25:20, 25:20) in the grand final. This is the club's first trophy from the tournament in its history, coming at a time when the team already possesses the Supercup, the Challenge Cup, and a medal from the Polish Championship 2024/2025.

Among the key figures in the historic success was the captain of the Bulgarian national team, Alex Grozdanov, who played a strong and mature match, especially in crucial moments.

Complete domination from the very first set

Bogdanka started the final in an impressive manner. Their serve and block immediately yielded results – 5:1, and Wilfredo Leon maintained his strong hand behind the 9-meter line, quickly making it 9:2. Resovia struggled to organize their attack, primarily winning points from opponent errors, as the lead swelled to 18:7. A single ace by Klemen Čebul at the end changed nothing, and the first set logically went to the champions.

Control in the second set as well

The beginning of the second set unfolded similarly. A counter-attack by Kewin Sasak made it 6:2, and although Massimo Botti's proteges narrowed the deficit to 6:9, it was short-lived. Bogdanka played freely, continued to press with their serve (15:9), and Resovia's reception problems, especially with libero Paweł Zatorski, seriously hampered their ability to build attacks. Leon's confident execution brought the second set to an end.

The third set and Grozdanov's moment

In the third set, Resovia showed a will to resist. Yacine Louati and Čebul gave them an early lead (4:2), and the team from Subcarpathia maintained the advantage until 11:8. However, reception problems resurfaced. An ace by Leon and a strong intervention by Alex Grozdanov tipped the scales (15:13).

The decisive moment came at 22:18 when the Bulgarian middle blocker scored an important point at the net, and after a difficult serve by Marcin Komenda, Bogdanka was on the verge of making history. Two consecutive errors by Resovia, the last confirmed by video challenge, brought the trophy to Lublin.

Individual and team superiority

Alex Grozdanov finished the final with:

  • 7 points, +6 efficiency

  • 1 ace

  • 2 blocks

  • 44% attack efficiency

The top scorer was Wilfredo Leon:

  • 15 points, +10 efficiency

  • 4 aces

  • 2 blocks

  • 50% in attack

Kevin Sasak, who was chosen as MVP of the final, added:

  • 12 points, +9

  • 2 blocks

  • 59% attack efficiency

For Resovia, the only player with consistent effectiveness was Klemen Cebul with 13 points.

Team Statistics

Metric Bogdanka Lublin Asseco Resovia
Blocks (points/total) 10 6
Aces (points/total) 8 3
Attack efficiency 52% 44%

The statistics fully reflect what happened on the court. Bogdanka's superiority in blocking and serving disrupted Resovia's organization, while better reception and stable defensive saves allowed the team from Lublin to control the match in all three sets.

Historic trophy with Bulgarian signature

Bogdanka LUK Lublin won the first Polish Cup in its history, and Alex Grozdanov once again showed why he is the captain of the Bulgarian national team – leadership, stability, and decisive points in the most crucial moments. A success that holds significance not only for the club but also for Bulgarian volleyball.
