Vangelia Rachkovska and Volero with first victory in Champions League

In a match from the third round of Group A in the Champions League, Volea Alba Blaj lost away to Volero Le Cannet with 3:1 (25:23, 21:25, 25:22, 25:22).

This was the third consecutive defeat in three matches played for the Romanian champion in the group stage of the tournament this season. The truth is that against Scandicci and VakıfBank, it's difficult to make serious claims, so realistically, this particular failure can be considered the main disappointment.

Unfortunately for Blaj, the team suffered a serious stroke of bad luck after Andrea Piani – the team's top scorer throughout the season – sustained an injury. Despite this, the match was extremely close, as her replacement Evilania Martínez, re-trained from an outside hitter to an opposite hitter, performed at a very high level. The Cuban scored a total of 23 points and became the top scorer in the match.

The French team from Volero Le Cannet, on the other hand, impressed with stable defensive play throughout the match, a fact exemplified by the MVP award being given to the team's libero Amandine Giardino.

For the winners from Volero Le Cannet, the Bulgarian Vangeliya Rachkovska finished the match with 10 points, +7, 65% positive and 22% perfect reception, 3 blocks, and 20% attack efficiency.

For Alba Blaj, the Bulgarian Dariya Ivanova did not enter the game.

Volea Alba Blaj's next match is scheduled for next week, on January 14, when the Romanian team visits VakıfBank Istanbul. The Turkish powerhouse is the only undefeated team in the group, having defeated Scandicci, the reigning world club champion, 3:1 away on Thursday evening.
With this victory, Volero became third in Group A.
